Keeping in touch with your dentist, from Dr. B

Dr. Badalamenti and team keep in touch with our patients’ general dentists with regular progress reports to update them on how treatment is progressing, and how the patient is doing with cooperation and oral hygiene. We encourage cooperation with all our patients’ oral health professionals.

We would like our patients to take advantage of a new area in our office known as "The Hub." Just ask us about it when you come in for your appointment.

At Dr. Badalamenti's office, we know it’s not easy for adults to admit they need braces. Some don’t like to think about it, others put off treatment as long as they can, many just say they can’t afford braces, while others embrace getting treatment (pardon the pun).

Most adults that come into our office are ready for orthodontic treatment. They have waited for various reasons, many involving waiting until their children have finished their treatment. We enjoy our adult patients. They are extremely committed to cooperating in helping their treatment progress rapidly.

With our SureSmile treatment, time in braces may be reduced by 40 percent. We enjoy their treatment progress almost as much as they do because they are very excited with the changes they encounter throughout their time in braces.

All our adults are positive about the experience and we are fortunate to share in that. Adults are extremely cooperative in their brushing habits, and wearing of auxillary appliances like rubber bands. The motivation of adults to wear retainers is a great benefit.

Presidents’ Day Fun Facts with Dr. Badalamenti!

Today marks Presidents’ Day, a day known for celebrating of both George Washington’s and Abraham Lincoln’s combined Birthdays. Presidents’ Day was created in 1971, when President Richard Nixon combined the birthdays of two of our most well-known presidents into one single federal holiday. Presidents’ Day also marks a hard-earned day off from work and school for a lot of our patients at Dr. Badalamenti's orthodontic office.

Here are a few fun facts about our nation’s presidents:

*Abraham Lincoln, our 16th president, carried letters, bills and notes in his tall stovepipe hat.

*George Washington is the first president to be featured on a postage stamp.

*Ronald Reagan, our 40th president, broke the so-called “20-year curse,” in which every president elected in a year ending in 0 died in office.

*Harry S. Truman was the first president to have his Inauguration and speeches televised.

*Abraham Lincoln was the tallest of the U.S. presidents measuring 6’ 4” tall.

*Virginia is the birthplace of more United States presidents than any other state, followed by Ohio and Massachusetts.

Ask Dr. Badalamenti: How long does orthodontic treatment take?

Your smile is totally unique, so the time you’ll need to spend undergoing orthodontic treatment will also be unique. Generally, orthodontic treatment will take about two years, and this is for good reason. During this time, your teeth will slowly move into their desired positions, leaving you with a great smile with as little discomfort as possible. Rushing treatment can result in a less than perfect smile with a greater chance of tooth movement after your treatment is complete. At the office of Dr. Badalamenti we don’t want to waste your time with treatment that won’t retain your smile for the rest of your life.

Of course, treatment time will vary depending on your specific situation. Very minor tooth movement may only take a few months to correct, while serious malocclusion (poor bite) may need more than two years to correct. Only Dr. Philip Badalamenti will be able to accurately estimate the time your treatment will take. But trust us—it’ll all be worth it in the end!

Doctor's Corner: “I’m excited to get braces, but I’m also nervous”

Something Dr. B and our team have found is that keeping the end result in mind helps to make things go easier, and more quickly with a positive spin on the braces "experience.” Patients are motivated with encouragement and involvement in their progress. Our "New Faces In Braces" computer (which continually rotates photos) allows patients to see others that are a part of our practice, and they usually find someone they know, so they know others are having a similar experience.
